A single re-entry travel document allows persons who have been granted refugee status, subsidiary protection, temporary protection, settled status, immigrant status or recognised as a stateless person in Hungary to exercise their statutory right to a single re-entry to Hungary.
Persons enjoying refugee status, temporary or subsidiary protection are eligible for a single re-entry travel document to Hungary if their travel document has expired, been lost, stolen, damaged or is no longer suitable to prove the identity of the holder in any other way.
Persons of immigrant, settled status or recognised as a stateless person are eligible for a single re-entry travel document to Hungary only if their travel document has been lost abroad or destroyed.
Applications for a single re-entry travel document must be submitted to the consular officer.
Applicants must state the reasons for their application by presenting official records thereof, in particular:
If you apply for a single re-entry travel document because your travel document has been lost, stolen or destroyed abroad, as a general rule you should present official records (typically, a police report) to the diplomatic mission to prove that you have met your obligation to report the loss, theft or destruction of your travel document. (Where appropriate, the requirement of presenting official records can be waived.)
If the document is issued, you are concurrently informed that upon your return to Hungary you must immediately contact the immigration control authority that granted you refugee status, subsidiary protection, temporary protection, immigrant status, settled status or recognised you as a stateless person and issued you the travel document for the corresponding status. This is because you must request a new travel document from the immigration control authority so that you can prove your identity and status.
Special rules pertaining to minors:
Applications of minors or persons under legal guardianship must be submitted by the parent or the legal guardian.
Single re-entry travel documents are issued in eight days.
If available, you should attach to your application your previous travel document (typically, a document issued by the Hungarian immigration control authority) or any other proof of identity with a photograph.
Special rules pertaining to minors: If one parent is absent, a statement of the absent parent (legal guardian) granting consent to the issuance of the travel document or a copy of the final court decision withdrawing or suspending parental responsibility should be attached.
Single re-entry travel documents are issued for a consular fee of EUR 30.
Applications for a single re-entry travel document are considered by the consul at his/her discretion.
You can lodge an appeal against the first instance decision explaining the reasons for your appeal. The appeal must be filed with the consular officer within fifteen days of the communication of the challenged decision.
Assessment of the appeals is the responsibility of the minister for foreign affairs and trade.
Single re-entry travel documents are valid for a maximum period of six months.
